LinkedIn Final Journal

 LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a fairly well-known social networking site that is oriented mainly toward job advertisements and other business-related activities. The targeted users for this type of social media are mainly job seekers, people who are interested in looking for a different occupations or positions, and famous organizations. Unlike Facebook or Twitter, which are tailored toward entertainment and establishing personal presence. LinkedIn, on the other hand, are primarily for connecting people with businesses. It allows users to demonstrate and publish their past work experience, education, and backgrounds so that they can stand out more. Companies and organizations currently seeking for new employees can also use LinkedIn to reach out to potential work candidates.

LinkedIn is more professional, both in appearance and primary purposes compared to other social media. This was actually my first time using this type of social network. Unlike Facebook, which is more for connecting friends and families together, LinkedIn seems to be strictly for work-related activities only. The targeted userbase for the two social sites is also different. While neither site imposes any restriction on the types of users allowed on their platforms. I can still notice a distinct contrast. Almost anyone can use Facebook, regardless of their backgrounds or positions. Meanwhile LinkedIn users tend to be mostly either white-collar office workers, or people with degrees. While both social sites contain some level of career-oriented services. The generally well-educated userbase of LinkedIn just makes it more appealing to businesses and organizations that are currently seeking for new hires.

The user-interface of LinkedIn also appears more professionally design. The site gives the users plenty of options to tailor their own personal profile to display as much information as possible. In addition to name and profile picture, users are also able to add their current work position and profession. People that would like to describe their work history in more details can try the LinkedIn description box. Options to modify educational backgrounds, such as schools and colleges attended, and other disciplines, are also available. In summary, the site’s layout and model is similar to that of a traditional work resume.
